New Small-Scale MiniModule® Degasifier Is Now Available From Membrana
Membrana has commercialized a new laboratory-scale degasifier designed to debubble a variety of solutions. The new 1 x 5.5 inch MiniModule contactor is smaller than the typical Liqui-Cel® Extra-Flow contactor designs. This MiniModule was developed to process liquid flows from a few ml/min to 500 ml/min. These small contactors are very robust and are rated to 60 psi at ambient temperatures. The 1 x 5.5 MiniModule contactor utilizes John Guest® quick connect fittings promoting
ease of use for many degassing applications. The 1 x 5.5 contactor replaces an older style MiniModule that had a lower capacity.
The 1 x 5.5 MiniModule utlizes Celgard® X50 hollow fiber membrane, which is a thick-walled microporous hydrophobic polypropylene that allows excellent gas transfer with liquids. Gas diffuses from the liquid stream to the gas stream of the hollow fiber with the use of a small vaccum pump or an eductor.
The contactor is designed to fit into very small spaces in laboratory or analytical environments. It is compatible with a wide range of fluids and applications and it is FDA compliant. The contactors are already being used in lab scale analytical equipment for degassing water and buffer solutions. The contactors can be plugged right into existing systems or they can be easily designed into any new system.
Membrana also manufactures a full line of Liqui-Cel Membrane Contactors which are larger-scale and are used around the world for adding or removing Oxygen (O2), Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Nitrogen (N2) to or from different liquids in the Semiconductor, Power, Pharmaceutical, Photographic, Food and Beverage, and many other industries. For example, it is known that O2 negatively impacts many processes; it is corrosive and can oxidize materials. In the power and industrial areas, piping and equipment are susceptible to corrosion. Specifically to the semiconductor market, high levels of O2 can cause lower wafer yields. Additionally, CO2 negatively impacts performance of EDI and Ion Exchange. The Liqui-Cel Contactors offer a modular solution for O2/CO2 removal before these processes without chemicals.
Liqui-Cel Contactors are also used to add gasses to liquids to enhance megasonic cleaning. The beverage industry looks to membrane contactors for carbonation, nitrogenation and O2 removal. These reflect only a few examples of the variety of applications where the Liqui-Cel Membrane Contactors are used. New applications are constantly being developed.
Additionally, Membrana offers liquid ring vacuum pumps, eductors and Orbisphere sensors to complement the membrane contactors.
Membrana´s Industrial Membrane Group also manufactures a variety of membranes used for filtration in various industries and applications. Manufacturing facilities are located in the USA and Europe. Global markets are served through sales offices and affiliates in North America, Europe, Japan, South East Asia and China.
