GURNEE, Ill. (January 12, 2016) The Frozen Bean Inc. is a leading manufacturer of specialty desserts and beverages for the foodservice industry. Using ingredients sourced from around the world, they produce a wide selection of specialty dessert and beverage blends at their headquarters and manufacturing facility in Rancho Cucamonga, CA. As well as The Frozen Bean branded products, they have a significant amount of domestic and internationally based private label business serving customers in Mexico, Australia, Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, Denmark, South Africa, Chile, Korea and Ireland.

“Over 70% of our business is done overseas. International law is changing in countries like Saudi Arabia, India and Middle Eastern countries ... We’re no longer able to put labels on the bag so now we have to print directly onto the bag itself,” said John Bae, The Frozen Bean President and CEO.

“When we were initially approached with this issue, we did a lot of research and looked into solutions. Our plant manager suggested Domino from his previous experience with their reliability, quality and service. We went ahead and got quotes and inspected equipment. In the end … we realized that our plant manager was right and we stuck with Domino!” Mr. Bae declared.

According to John Malette, Sector Development Manager at Domino, “Flexible film packaging regulations are constantly changing and this is where Domino’s V-Series over-printer shines! By marrying to the flexible film packaging machine at the point of wrapping or bagging, our V-Series printer can digitally “overprint” variable information—like net weight, expiration date, country of origin, product flavor and ingredient lists—at the time the product is filled. As a result, the V-Series reduces they need for custom film inventory at the point of packaging, allowing variable information to be printed as needed, based on customer demand.  This can improve response time and eliminate stock-outs due to running short on packaging film.”

The Frozen Bean utilizes many Domino printers at its manufacturing facility. Domino’s V320i Thermal Transfer printer labels the drink mix flavor on the front of the bags and nutritional information on the back of each bag. Additionally, Domino S-Series, D-Series, C-Series, M-Series, G-Series and several other digital printers are called into service throughout The Frozen Bean’s production process. “We’re getting into retail sizes and packaging of our products as well, and Domino has the equipment to do that,” said Mr. Bae. “This allows us to be flexible and have custom packaging for each of our product lines—over 300 SKUs,” he added.

As a high-volume manufacturer, equipment reliability is of the utmost importance to The Frozen Bean. And it’s a key reason they prefer working with Domino. According to Bae, “Part of the reason we fit so well with Domino is when something does go wrong, we need someone who’s going to answer. We need somebody to talk to. And we need somebody who’s going to take responsibility and get it done. With all the ingredients [we use] we have a ton of things on our plate already. We can’t sit here and worry about a printer going out on us. With Domino, that does not happen.”

“When you’re running production you can’t afford to be down and that’s why The Frozen Bean trusts Domino!” he adds.
