The care and cleaning of filter membranes is essential to the success of any filtration operation. International Products Corporation's Micro-90® is used to clean filter membranes safely and effectively, and often brings cost savings when compared to other membrane cleaning methods.
DTE Tonawanda treats industrial wastewater generated by the engine plant of a major automotive manufacturer and has had great success in using Micro-90. They treat up to 168,000 gallons of wastewater per day using an ultra filtration membrane system consisting of two banks of 160 filters each. Micro-90 removes the organics and metals that blind the membranes and has allowed the company to eliminate their previous two-step process that used caustic and acid materials.
According to Dan Johnson, the company's plant manager, "A 1% solution of Micro 90 allows a single cleaning cycle, which provides savings through reduced energy use, reduced chemical use, and less downtime. We achieve 100% recovery after every Micro-90 wash, and have yet to replace any of our membranes after six years of operation."
Micro-90 is a mild, yet powerful, alkaline cleaner that has long been used in laboratories, industrial applications, and critical cleaning processes. It is a unique detergent that contains ionic and non-ionic ingredients, which combine to produce a variety of cleaning actions. Micro-90 lifts, disperses, emulsifies, sequesters, suspends, and decomposes soils, then rinses away leaving the surface absolutely clean.
