Cary, NC (PRWEB) - MTS Systems Corporation (NASDAQ: MTSC), a leading global supplier of test systems and position sensors, has introduced the Ethernet POWERLINK protocol to its portfolio of Temposonics® R-Series magnetostrictive linear position sensors. Utilizing the new output protocols, Temposonics® R-Series POWERLINK Sensors provide real-time feedback and are the preferred sensing solution in dynamic applications with short cycle times.

Temposonics® R-Series POWERLINK Sensors can easily be integrated into networks using the POWERLINK V2 open interface with an M12 connector in ring or star topology. The IP address can be entered via the software and allows the sensor to be integrated into the network without further programming. The PLC identifies the sensor by means of XDD files and accesses its parameters as needed. Diagnostic LEDs on the sensor head provide service personnel both visual Ethernet communication status and sensor operation.

The aluminium profile used for the external mounting on the machine is available with a measuring length from approximately 1 to 200 inches (25 to 5000 mm). To enable cylinder integration, the rod version can be ordered with a measuring length up to 300 inches (7600 mm). The sensors detect up to four positions and velocity values with a resolution of 1 µm simultaneously. Superior control is guaranteed, even in the most complex applications.

“Given its scalability and its ability to integrate all systems, POWERLINK is currently used across many applications, including machine and plant engineering, factory and process automation and measuring technology,” explains Matt Hankinson, Technical Marketing Manager, MTS Sensors. “Our improved line of sensors utilizing this interface is ideal for material handling and packaging, fluid power, mining, food and beverage, textile, and pharmaceutical applications.”
