Demand for water cooler containers that are 100% free of BPA is set to increase sharply, according to leading supplier Petainer.

Petainer, which is headquartered in the UK with production plants in Sweden, the Czech Republic and Russia, has just launched the BPA-free PetainerCooler™ – a completely safe, PET water cooler container that is lightweight, returnable, refillable and recyclable.  The PetainerCooler™ is available ready to use, as well as in preform format to be blown locally, significantly reducing freight costs.

BPA, or Bisphenol A, is a synthetic compound commonly found in plastic packaging made from Polycarbonate.   Although valued for its clarity and strength, it has been in the news in recent years because of evidence that it can be harmful to health.

France has already moved to ban BPA from food and beverage packaging from January 2015.  Meanwhile, the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has launched a public consultation on the use of BPA in food contact materials .

Annemieke Hartman-Jemmett, Strategy Director at Petainer, said:  “Innovation through using proven safe materials is Petainer’s top priority, so we decided to pre-empt regulatory changes and develop our own, healthier BPA-free water cooler container ¬– the PetainerCooler™.  This means our customers can act now and eliminate BPA from their water cooler systems without delay.”
