Cherrypharm All Natural Tart Cherry Juice Beats Leading Pomegranate Juice* In Antioxidant Levels In Independent Study

Bottel

Geneva, NY - CherryPharm, a new all natural, not from concentrate, cherry juice made from whole tart cherries, out-performed several food products* including pomegranate juice and other cherry juices and concentrates in total antioxidants.

Brunswick Labs in Norton, Massachusetts recently looked at the antioxidant levels, as measured by Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) of several different cherry juices and concentrates as well as some other well-known fruit juice products making antioxidant claims. In each case, CherryPharm had significantly higher antioxidant levels than the nearest competitor.

CherryPharm, measured 13,015 ORAC units per 8 fl. oz. serving compared to 6,637 ORAC units for the next closest ready-to-drink cherry juice. Interestingly, the leading brand of pomegranate juice registered only 7,805 ORAC units per 8 fl. oz. serving while concord grape juice, another fruit juice frequently touted for antioxidants measures a scant 3,600 ORAC units per serving.

Everyone from athletes to the health conscious are paying attention to "super fruits,"—foods that are packed with phytonutrients and antioxidants essential for good health. Tart cherries have been touted as the "next big thing" in this category. However, the harsh effects of food processing can cause degradation of the nutritional values as the fruit travels from bushel to bottle.

"While cherries may start out with the same nutritional content, they don't necessarily maintain that from one product to the next," says John Davey, President and Founder of CherryPharm. "We have worked hard with the food scientists at Cornell University's Department of Food Science and Technology to develop a process that maintains the integrity of the fruit throughout processing—which research shows can strip the nutritional value from the cherries."

A clinical trial performed at the University of Vermont Human Performance Lab using CherryPharm, was published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine in June, 2006. The study showed a significant decrease in the symptoms of post-exercise muscle damage in college aged males following regular consumption of CherryPharm. In particular, strength loss, pain, and recovery time were all significantly reduced versus a placebo. CherryPharm is currently being used by the New York Rangers and athletes all over the world as part of their training regimen. CherryPharm has the equivalent of 50 tart cherries in each 8 fl. oz. bottle – the juice is made from whole fruit, not from concentrate.
