Horsholm, Denmark – From production tests of existing products to development of new product concepts and functionalities, Chr. Hansen's newly built Application and Technology Center in Horsholm, Denmark is designed to handle different project types and sizes, and serve customers and colleagues worldwide.

Within the new Center, the Parterre, Kitchens and Confectionery facilities are designed for different development and production activities, including customer-oriented product development in collaboration with key accounts; development and evaluation of new Chr. Hansen's products, and test-productions for exhibitions and customer visits. Food products that can be developed and produced in the center include cheeses, fermented milks, emulsified products, UHT sauces, carbonated beverages, ice cream, soups, bouillon, dressings, jellies, dragée, and hardboiled candies. Also, Chr. Hansen conducts technical training seminars at the center for customers and Chr. Hansen employees to improve technical and product knowledge.

"The key word for the Application & Technology Center is innovation, and the basic concept is to have all necessary competences and equipment under one roof in order to meet the customers' different application needs," said Peter Olesen, Executive Vice President for Research, Development & Application.

According to Jeff Kondo, Sr. Vice President of Technology, "This state-of the art facility in Denmark will enhance Chr. Hansen's capabilities here in North America and allow us to better serve our customers. Along with our application centers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Mahwah, New Jersey, and Gainesville, Florida, the new center will give us additional resources to use in our development efforts."

The Application and Technology Center gathers great potentials in terms of production capabilities. The equipment is suitable to develop and produce a variety of cheeses, fermented milks, high-emulsified products, prepared foods and confectionery. Also, there is flexibility to expand capabilities for new applications.

All parameters related to the different production processes carried out in the pilot plants are computer-monitored to insure precise, reliable evaluations of the new products and applications. New software was specially designed to fulfill the requirements of each production process, and allows full control of all production steps. Touch-on-screen displays facilitate set-up parameters of each production, and give a complete overview of the production status.
