Frito-Lay Completes Purchase of Smith's Snackfood
The Frito-Lay Company announced that it has completed its purchase of The Smith's Snackfood Company in Australia from United Biscuits Holdings, Inc.
The acquisition was announced last year as part of a $440 million transaction involving Frito-Lay and UB snack food assets in Europe and Australia. The move continues the strategic course of PepsiCo, Inc., Frito-Lay's parent company, which has been investing in its core businesses of snacks and beverages since spinning-off its restaurant operations last year.
Frito-Lay's new Australian operation, which will retain The Smith's Snackfood Company name, combines Frito-Lay's established global brands (Lay's, Doritos, Chee.tos, Ruffles and Tostitos) and Smith's national brands (Smith's, Lites, Twisties, Burger Rings, Parkers, Nobby Nuts).
The Frito-Lay Company, headquartered in Plano, TX, is the snack food division of PepsiCo, Inc., which is based in Purchase, NY. Frito-Lay is the market leader in half of the world's top 10 snack chip markets with operations in 40 countries and a family of global, brands including Doritos Tortilla Chips, Lay's Potato Chips and Cheetos cheese-flavored snacks.
