Lipton Sells Puritan Business To International Home Foods

Lipton has announced that the company will sell its Puritan canned meat business to International Home Foods Inc., (Parsippany, N.J.) maker of Chef Boyardee and other food products.

"The sale of the Puritan business is part of Lipton's strategy to focus on core categories which include margarine, culinary products and tea-based beverages,'' said Peter Elwood, president of Lipton.

C. Dean Metropoulos, chairman and CEO of International Home Foods said, "This is a great fit with our existing IHF business in Canada and an attractive opportunity to broaden our base of business."

International Home Foods, Inc. manufactures, distributes and markets of established brand food products.

An operating division of Unilever Canada Limited, Lipton markets food products including: becel, Imperial and Monarch margarines; Lipton soups and side dishes, Ragu pasta sauces; and Red Rose and Salada teas.

Founded in 1959, Puritan processes and markets canned stews and meats in Canada.
