"It is a great honor to be recognized by the Paperboard Packaging Council for our work in developing the most innovative packaging in the industry," says Bill Biedenharn, president of MeadWestvaco Consumer Solutions Group. "We challenge ourselves each day to create new, unique packaging solutions that are valued by consumers in the marketplace, and the National Paperboard Packaging Competition acts as a compass for us to monitor our performance. The best and the brightest members of our industry judge each entry, and having them select our packaging from among many creative entries, reinforces our commitment to innovation."
In addition to receiving the top Innovation Award, MeadWestvaco was also honored with six Gold Awards, including one for the Paralux Ocean Pacific Gift Set Box that features a holographic liquid pattern that provides a visual connection to Parlux's fragrance spray bottles. MeadWestvaco also received an Innovation Gold Award for its new large Duodozen carton, which was developed to replace bulky corrugate in the large multiple category for beverages.
In addition, the company was presented with five Excellence Awards for its several distinctive packages, including two unique cartons developed for Cortaid healthcare products: a package featuring silver foil embossing showcasing the anti-itch cream; and a high-end plastic and paperboard carton promoting the company's poison ivy treatment kit. MeadWestvaco also received Innovation Excellence Awards for its Lancôme AccentsTM Dimensional Coating holiday carton featuring a snowflake design, and its FlexiTech® pouch packaging solution which replaces bulky corrugate.
"MeadWestvaco raises the bar each year we hold this competition," says Jerry Van de Water, president, Paperboard Packaging Council. "This year, we are pleased to give special recognition to the company's strengths in developing breakthrough packaging designs and for continuing to develop new applications and uses for paperboard."
The National Paperboard Packaging Competition is the premier showcase for all that is new and outstanding in paperboard packaging design and technology. The competition provides members with an opportunity to display their most impressive packaging designs and productions, and promote winning packages to customers.
