Membrana Commercializes A New Radial Flow SuperPhobic 2 x 6 Membrane Contactor
Membrana is pleased to announce the full commercialization of its 2 x 6 SuperPhobic Radial Flow Membrane Contactor. The SuperPhobic 2 x 6 Membrane Contactor is an all polyolefin degassing device that is resistant to many aggressive ink and coating solutions and various solvents. It is small and compact and provides in-line degassing and debubbling of low surface tension solutions.
The 2 x 6 Membrane Contactor utilizes a radial flow path through the contactor to maximize the surface area and optimize degassing efficiency. Hollow fiber membrane is knit into a fabric array and wound around a central distribution tube. Liquid flows through the distribution tube, which is parallel to the hollow fiber membrane. The liquid is forced radially over the membrane and exits the contactor through a side port in the housing.
There is 5.4 ft2 (0.50 m2) of membrane area in the 2 x 6 SuperPhobic Contactor and one device can process up to 1L/min of liquid. Larger contactors are also available for degassing higher volumes. The 2 x 6 is an integrally potted membrane contactor that does not utilize o-rings or external metal clamps that can swell in operation or corrode. The polyolefin 2 x 6 contactor is therefore ideally suited for aggressive fluids and challenging environments.
Furthermore, the 2 x 6 SuperPhobic Contactor has been field proven over the last year in many applications such as degassing and debubbling inks and coating solutions. Degassing inks is important because ink jet print heads will misfire and/or shut down an industrial or graphics printer if there is ink starvation at the print nozzle. Degassing or debubbling prevents this starvation and also prevents any foaming at the ink filling stations.
Other applications include degassing plating solutions and solutions used for manufacturing contact lenses. If there are gasses or bubbles in the plating solution they can cause unevenly plated surfaces and leave pits in the surface of circuit boards or other substrates that require plating. Degassing with SuperPhobic contactors eliminates part rejection by eliminating the bubbles that cause inadequate plating. Contact Lens yields can be improved if gasses are eliminated in the processing fluids. The 2 x 6 SuperPhobic Contactor is ideally suited for many degassing applications that require clean, precise degassing of low surface tension fluids.
SuperPhobic and Liqui-Cel Membrane Contactors are used around the world for adding or removing Oxygen (O2), Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and Nitrogen (N2) to or from different liquids in the Semiconductor, Power, Pharmaceutical, Medical, Photographic, Ink, Coating and Plating, Food and Beverage, and many other industries.
Additionally, Membrana offers liquid ring vacuum pumps, eductors and oxygen sensors to complement the membrane contactors.
