New Food Grade Antifoam Emulsion Appropriate for Pumping or Spraying

Witco Corporation (Greenwich, CT) has introduced its Sag 790 LV, low-viscosity food grade silicone antifoam emulsion (10% actives), which complies with FDA Regulation 21 CFR 173.340 and is certified Kosher and Kosher for Passover. The antifoam emulsion knocks down existing foam quickly and controls future foam development.

Tony Lanchak, Business Manager, Specialty Fluids, in Witco's OrganoSilicones Group said, "Sag 790 LV antifoam emulsion provides excellent control of foams occurring in food processing applications. At an economical cost, the low viscosity technology used in Sag 790 LV antifoam emulsion provides rapid dispersion in aqueous environments, with minimum agitation, thus making it especially useful in application systems with poor agitation."

Sag 790 LV antifoam is a thixotropic emulsion. When relaxed, the emulsion has a viscosity of approximately 500 cPs. Upon very light shear, the viscosity immediately drops to 50 cPs or less. This feature makes it easily pumped or sprayed. When stored, the emulsion returns to 500 cPs over several hours. Because of its low actives, the emulsion can be used without dilution, right out of the drum, allowing for less material handling and improved quality and consistency of the addition. The product is stable in viscosity with aging, and can be diluted with light agitation. Performance of the emulsion is not compromised by temperature or pH extremes.

Sag 790 LV antifoam emulsion is appropriate for food applications in which pumping and/or spraying occur. These include: alcohol fermentation; the manufacture of beverages, juices, sauces, condiments and flavorings, potato chip or seafood processing, the washing of fruits and vegetables, as well as in foodplant wastewater treatment.
