No Corkscrew Needed: Single-Serve Wine Packaging Makes Its Mark

Vernon Hills, IL - Tetra Pak, one of the food and beverage processing and packaging companies, is teaming up with Three Thieves and Target to provide consumers with new, wine options perfect for the holidays and other gatherings.

Consumers now have the option to purchase premium wine in a package that is easy to open and consume. With the launch of Three Thieves and Target Wine Cube in the 250-ml Tetra Prisma Aseptic package from Tetra Pak, consumers no longer have to open an entire bottle of wine to enjoy one glass at home with family and friends, according to the company. In addition, having single-serve wine packages is perfect for entertaining because each guest can be offered their preferred varietal without having to open multiple bottles of wine. This innovative single-serve package is perfect for solo-sipping, cooking, and bringing to an outdoor adventure, adds the company.

The single-serve package is ideal for consumers who want to enjoy a tasty wine in a convenient and easy-to-use package that protects what's good. Just like other Tetra Pak aseptic packaging, the Tetra Prisma container is made of paper, aluminum foil, and polyethylene that together keep the wine safe while ensuring freshness and great taste. The 4-pack of 250-ml equals 1L of wine – 33 percent more wine than is offered in a standard wine bottle.

"We are thrilled with the success of both the Three Thieves and Target wine cube in the 250-ml Tetra Prisma package and feel that this success signals the U.S. market's increasing acceptance of premium wine in alternative packages," said Jeff Kellar, vice president of strategic business development at Tetra Pak. "Wine is a very popular beverage choice during the holidays and the Three Thieves and Target Wine Cube in the single-serve package is a great choice for entertaining, holiday cooking, or simply enjoying some wine at home with friends and family."

The Tetra Prisma package features an easy-open pull-tab, making it very easy for consumers to open and drink right from the carton or to pour in a wine glass. In addition, unlike glass bottles, the container is shatterproof and requires no corkscrew, which allows consumers to take wine places that traditional glass bottles are not allowed. Wine in the new single-serve container is also perfect for cooking, as most recipes that include wine only require a small amount. The new single-serve package eliminates waste from leftover wine.

Not only is the Tetra Prisma container more convenient for consumers, it is also very environmentally friendly. The packages are made from a renewable resource and also require 90 percent less packaging than traditional bottles and take up less space during transportation, conserving fuel during shipment.

"The wine industry is constantly chasing new users and new opportunities for wine to be consumed," said Bieler. "This package makes it convenient for people to consume great wine just about anywhere, making it even more competitive with beer and other alcoholic beverages."

The Three Thieves Bandit Cabernet and Pinot Grigio are available now in the 250 ml 4-pack Tetra Prisma package for less than $10 per 4-pack in select locations throughout the U.S. including Whole Foods locations. The Target Wine Cube Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz, Merlot, Pinot Grigio, and Chardonnay in the single-serve 4-pack Tetra Prisma package are available at Target stores nationwide for $7.99 per 4-pack, according to the compnay. Tetra Pak has a wide variety of packages available for wineries. For more information, you can visit www.tetrapakusa.com.
