The company is now offering Perilla Seed Extract, which has recently been found to combat allergies. According to a Japanese study, patient symptoms improved dramatically on the 100mg – 150mg per day, two-week regimen of the extract. The tested symptoms included sneezing, stuffy nose, skin and eye irritation and runny nose. Lab tests have shown that the extract works by inhibiting the production of allergic mediators, or histamines, which are chemicals released by the body. These chemicals are triggered by the allergen, which can be anything from food to tree pollen.
Perilla seed's most common applications are beverages and health foods, as well as confectionaries such as candy, cookies, pudding, jelly, yogurt and chocolate. Perilla seed is grown in India, Japan, southern China and Taiwan.
