Thermedics Detection Announces New InScan Products at IEFP/Pack Expo
Yesterday in a press briefing at IEFP/Pack Expo '98 (Chicago), Thermedics Detection announced three new products and applications for the company's InScan Digital X-Ray Imaging product line.
The three products, all of which are currently available, include the Filler Valve Monitoring System, the Foreign Material Detection System, and the Package Integrity Analysis System.
The InScan 100 Filler Valve Monitoring System uses InScan's Net Content analysis capability to evaluate filler valve performance by valve number, enabling the appropriate valve adjustment or replacement and making it possible to control and correct under filling or overfilling by adjusting the specific offending valve. The system provides quantitative fill volume inspection and analysis and valve tracking capability for metal, glass, plastic and paperboard containers.
Features include: Actual fill volume tracking of each filler valve in ml, oz, or grams; rejection of under filled, overfilled and fallen containers; random or consecutive container sampling from the filler and closing machines; high speed 2400 container per minute precision IEC, FDA and CE certified compatible low-energy X-Ray interrogator; stainless steel NEMA 4X enclosure; embedded industrialized PC controller with self-diagnostics, high resolution multi-lingual display capability, membrane push button keypad, key lock controls and user protection interlocks; filler valve interface software for external plant computer networks and systems; and self diagnostic software.
The InScan 200 Foreign Material Detection System inspects packaged products for foreign objects, using its proprietary X-Ray detection system. Glass, metal, stones and other objects are detected in a variety of small packages, including loose glass fragments in glass containers. The system inspects all packages at up to 375-ft, or 115 meters, per minute with high accuracy and resolution. Featuring a small footprint, the InScan 200 reliably detects improper objects to 1mm x 1mm x 1mm, rejecting unacceptable packages. The image viewing feature provides on-demand image analysis.
The InScan 300 Package Integrity Analysis System for small packages provides package integrity information, including the presence or absence and proper location of various package components. Objects analyzed in packaged products include applicators, scoops, concealed caps, product feed stems, folded paper instructions, and blister packs. The system can detect multiple components in a given package, including items with different material densities. Unacceptable packages that are damaged, out of tolerance, or missing objects that should be present are identified and automatically rejected.
The system features a small footprint and operates at speeds up to 2400 containers per minute (520 feet/min or 159 meters/min.) The proprietary X-Ray detection system inspects every package for components with 1mm resolution. InScan products have been designed to optimize the quality and efficiency of filling lines, including those in the beverage, dairy, and food industries.
