TricorBraun New Packaging 'Super Distributor'

Following last year's formation of Tricor Packaging and the 1998 acquisition of the W. Braun Company, chairman Ken Kranzberg and co-CEOs Rick Glassman and Jeff Segar have announced the consolidation of these organizations, creating TricorBraun. Being dubbed a "Super Distributor," the new company is the packaging industry's largest design and distribution organization, supplying glass and plastic containers, closures, dispensers and tubes in North America.

The category of "Super Distributor," according to TricorBraun, is a new one in the packaging industry. "The phrase 'Super Distributor' is based on strengths that we have as a result of our three core competencies," says Glassman. "These three core competencies provide TricorBraun clients with specific, tangible business advantages, that when working together, cannot be matched by anyone else in the business."

The strengths and core competencies of TricorBraun to which Glassman is referring and which the company says qualifies it as a "Super Distributor," are: clout, design and development, and knowledge. The "Super Distributor" designation will be the central theme of an upcoming national advertising and direct mail campaign.

"Clout" refers to the fact that TricorBraun is more than twice as large as its closest competitor. The company represents every major container manufacturer in the United States and maintains several supplier relationships in Europe and the Pacific Rim. As for "design and development," TricorBraun has full-time studios in Chicago and Los Angeles, with more than 2,500 custom molds in its distribution product line as well as a distribution library of over 10,000 designs. Componetics, a proprietary process that combines the best elements of stock and custom components, is another element in TricorBraun's strong mix of creativity and innovation.

The third core competency is "knowledge." "With more than 25 locations across North America, and the largest sales and support organization in the business, we know the most about manufacturing capabilities, product availability and performance," says Segar. "This internally shared knowledge and depth of packaging industry experience allows us to solve even the most complex packaging problems for our customers."
